Actually this list may be better titled "Ten Ways to Not Faint of Heatstroke at Work."<br /><br />You think I'm kidding. lol<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://foodpictures.org/__oneclick_uploads/2008/03/plastic_water_bottle.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 94px; height: 148px;" src="http://foodpictures.org/__oneclick_uploads/2008/03/plastic_water_bottle.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>1 - Ice Water - Be prepared with frozen bottles of water. They melt fast. I took 3 of them today and also one bottle of plain cold water. And two cans of Diet Coke. And I drank a frozen Coke on the way in.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/121/294889476_038ea5c9f9.jpg?v=0"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 102px; height: 135px;" src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/121/294889476_038ea5c9f9.jpg?v=0" alt="" border="0" /></a>2 - Dress properly for the weather. Wear long shorts or capris. (Knees must be covered when standing up.) Wear a thin shirt and roll up your sleeves. Roll up your pant legs too, especially if your uniform requires long pants. Even my boss had his pant legs rolled up today. (Those are not MY legs.)<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.bikernet.com/news/images/PhotoID10698.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 134px; height: 120px;" src="http://www.bikernet.com/news/images/PhotoID10698.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>3 - Wear something cold and wet on your head. Use a bandana if you brought one. Or go grab an appropriately sized rag and use that instead. You can put ice cubes in it and they will melt on you. Even if your do-rag is not wet, it will keep your hair from blowing all over from the.....<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.symanskimh.com/85.1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 188px; height: 140px;" src="http://www.symanskimh.com/85.1.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>4 - Giant fans. Blowing right at your head. Oh yeah, baby.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__nxNjsFxTjQ/SEotO6bsYnI/AAAAAAAAAKo/BtcJPI1lzso/s1600-h/Image3.JPG"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 118px; height: 158px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/__nxNjsFxTjQ/SEotO6bsYnI/AAAAAAAAAKo/BtcJPI1lzso/s320/Image3.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5209025653234229874" border="0" /></a>5 - Instead of a rag on your head, you may prefer, as do I, a rag around your neck. The ice cubes still work this way; in fact, they work better. It gets your shirt all wet, and that is a bonus. (That's not me. I don't know who it is, some random person on flickr or somewhere.)<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.kool-aire.net/images/large/Air_Conditioner_A_lg.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 122px; height: 144px;" src="http://www.kool-aire.net/images/large/Air_Conditioner_A_lg.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>6 - Usually we get two 10 minute breaks during our shift (in addition to our 30 minute lunch). On hot days, our breaks are FIFTEEN minutes long instead.<br /><br />7 - We get to sit in the air-conditioned lunchroom during break.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://images.teamsugar.com/files/users/7/71733/29_2007/gatorade.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 101px; height: 101px;" src="http://images.teamsugar.com/files/users/7/71733/29_2007/gatorade.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>8 - Today there was a huge jug of Gatorade available for us. I passed on that. Not a big fan of Gatorade really.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.serve-others.com/userfiles/Image/Sept07/popsicles.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 151px; height: 99px;" src="http://www.serve-others.com/userfiles/Image/Sept07/popsicles.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>9 - We also get free popsicles during the summer. This is the first week we've had them available. I ate a blue one and a red one. Chilly!<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.oasisdesign.net/images/img_book/h2oSvanteWaterFace475r.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 98px; height: 141px;" src="http://www.oasisdesign.net/images/img_book/h2oSvanteWaterFace475r.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />10 - When all else fails, drench yourself at the sink. Or pour a bottle of water on yourself.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />So, there you have it. My survival plan for summer in a factory. Hopefully you won't need this information, but as the Scouts say, "Be Prepared!"Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11637619.post-1158890971279026732006-09-21T21:44:00.000-04:002006-09-21T22:24:13.630-04:00Ten DVD's I Have Watched Recently<table><tr><td valign="top" align="left"><a href="http://www.frazy.com/movies/lisaquing"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000067DNF.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" alt="frazy.com" /><br /><span style="font-size:11px">The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition)</span></a></td><td valign="top" align="left"><a href="http://www.frazy.com/movies/lisaquing"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000EXDS4I.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" alt="frazy.com" /><br /><span style="font-size:11px">End of the Spear</span></a></td><td valign="top" align="left"><a href="http://www.frazy.com/movies/lisaquing"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000VCZKM.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" alt="frazy.com" /><br /><span style="font-size:11px">Annie (Special Anniversary Edition)</span></a></td></tr><tr><td valign="top" align="left"><a href="http://www.frazy.com/movies/lisaquing"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000F8DBDK.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" alt="frazy.com" /><br /><span style="font-size:11px">The World's Fastest Indian</span></a></td><td valign="top" align="left"><a href="http://www.frazy.com/movies/lisaquing"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0009XT8A6.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" alt="frazy.com" /><br /><span style="font-size:11px">Beyond the Gates of Splendor</span></a></td><td valign="top" align="left"><a href="http://www.frazy.com/movies/lisaquing"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000FGG5MQ.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" alt="frazy.com" /><br /><span style="font-size:11px">Texas Ranch House</span></a></td></tr><tr><td valign="top" align="left"><a href="http://www.frazy.com/movies/lisaquing"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0007Y08SS.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" alt="frazy.com" /><br /><span style="font-size:11px">MacGyver - The Complete Second Season</span></a></td><td valign="top" align="left"><a href="http://www.frazy.com/movies/lisaquing"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000CQM4YM.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" alt="frazy.com" /><br /><span style="font-size:11px">Quantum Leap - The Complete Fourth Season</span></a></td><td valign="top" align="left"><a href="http://www.frazy.com/movies/lisaquing"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000G1R394.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" alt="frazy.com" /><br /><span style="font-size:11px">Akeelah and the Bee (Widescreen Edition)</span></a></td></tr><tr><td valign="top" align="left"><a href="http://www.frazy.com/movies/lisaquing"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0009UC7H0.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" alt="frazy.com" /><br /><span style="font-size:11px">Sahara (Widescreen Edition)</span></a></td><td valign="top" align="left"><a href="http://www.frazy.com/movies/lisaquing"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/6305428387.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" alt="frazy.com" /><br /><span style="font-size:11px">Cool Runnings</span></a></td></tr></table><a href="http://www.frazy.com/movies/lisaquing">powered by frazy.com</a><br /><br />Once again, you get a bonus DVD. lol <br /><br />I love <i>Sahara</i> so much that I ordered it (used from Netflix - way cool!). I also started reading Clive Cussler novels again. I think I was still a teenager the last time I read one!<br /><br /><i>Cool Runnings</i> is one I've been wanting my kids to see for a long time. It recently came out on DVD and I jumped at the chance for the kids to see it. I find it very inspiring. Great story with an "underdog" theme, sort of like Cool Runnings - old guy has a beloved speedy motorcycle and he wants to enter it in the speed trials in Utah. <br /><br /><i>Akeelah and the Bee</i> is a movie that should have had more publicity. Why, oh why, do we get crap like <i>Snakes on a Plane</i> when there is good stuff like this going un-noticed? Another "underdog" story, though! LOL I must have a soft spot for the long shot!<br /><br /><i>Annie</i> is a favorite from my childhood. I know all the music by heart. And so does my sister Christy, I imagine, since I played the RECORD (not CD) over and over and over. "It's a hard knock life, for us!" (Another "underdog story!!! lol)<br /><br />Do I really have to say a thing about <i>Fellowship of the Ring</i>? It's only one of my favorite movies ever! It had been way way too long since I'd watched it and it was like running into an old friend, one of the ones where it seems you haven't spent any time apart at all. (Techinically ANOTHER underdog story!)<br /><br />Did I review <i>End of the Spear</i>? If I didn't, I should have. Go watch it. It's really really touching and inspiring. Then, of course, me being the obsessive that I am, I had to rent the documentary <i>Beyond the Gates of Splendor</i> AND read the book by Elisabeth Elliott. <br /><br />Two of my all-time favorite TV shows - <i>MacGyver</i> and <i>Quantum Leap</i>. Just trying to make my way through the series on DVD. My life would be so enriched if only <i>Homefront</i> would also be released on DVD. Someday..... Someday.....<br /><br />That just leaves <i>Texas Ranch House</i>, one of the PBS series that I love so much, starting with <i>The 1900 House</i>. This American installment was better than the other American one - <i>Frontier House</i>. That one was just plain awful. This was much better... at least until the bitter end.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11637619.post-1143950008521032162006-04-01T22:21:00.001-05:002008-07-03T01:57:58.626-04:00Ten DVD Releases I Am Anticipating<table><tbody><tr><td align="center" valign="middle"><a href="http://www.hotfreelayouts.com/movies.php?vid=13544733"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000CNFC76.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" /></a></td><td align="center" valign="middle"><a href="http://www.hotfreelayouts.com/movies.php?vid=13544733"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000EDWKXI.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" /></a></td><td align="center" valign="middle"><a href="http://www.hotfreelayouts.com/movies.php?vid=13544733"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000E8M0WO.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" /></a></td></tr><tr><td align="center" valign="middle"><a href="http://www.hotfreelayouts.com/movies.php?vid=13544733"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000E5KQOQ.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" /></a></td><td align="center" valign="middle"><a href="http://www.hotfreelayouts.com/movies.php?vid=13544733"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00005JNRE.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" /></a></td><td align="center" valign="middle"><a href="http://www.hotfreelayouts.com/movies.php?vid=13544733"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00005JOJF.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" /></a></td></tr><tr><td align="center" valign="middle"><a href="http://www.hotfreelayouts.com/movies.php?vid=13544733"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00005JOQ6.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" /></a></td><td align="center" valign="middle"><a href="http://www.hotfreelayouts.com/movies.php?vid=13544733"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000F8DV1M.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" /></a></td><td align="center" valign="middle"><a href="http://www.hotfreelayouts.com/movies.php?vid=13544733"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000ERVJMC.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg" border="0" /></a></td></tr></tbody></table><a href="http://www.hotfreelayouts.com/movies.php">Create your own Movie List @ HotFreeLayouts!</a><br /><br /><br />I couldn't get pictures of these:<br />The Family Stone<br />End of the Spear<br /><br />(I know that's 11! Then divide that room into two bedrooms.<br /><br />5 - Redo the kitchen, starting with the cabinets. I'd like to keep my big porcelain covered iron sink, though. New appliances definitely. These were here (and old already) when we bought the house 12 years ago.<br /><br />6 - Can I add a basement to a house that doesn't have one? If I can, I would. (All we have is a "Michigan basement" with a furnace and water heater in it. Just the one tiny room - dirt floor.)<br /><br />7 - Finish all the little odds and ends that never got done. Trim that isn't put up, etc...<br /><br />8 - CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING. :-)<br /><br />9 - OK, since we're dreaming here, add on an INDOOR pool.<br /><br />10 - Barring all that, I wish we'd have pushed the house over and started from scratch 12 years ago. So, here are ten things I can do to make money. If you would like to hire me for any of them <g>, please email me! <a href="mailto:lisa@homeschoolchoices.com">lisa@homeschoolchoices.com</a><br /><br />1 - Tutoring - I tutor any age in Reading, Language Arts, Writing, etc... I can also tutor elementary math and Spanish.<br /><br />2 - Curriculum Consultation - See my website <a href="http://www.homeschoolchoices.com">www.homeschoolchoices.com</a>.<br /><br />3 - Mentioning the website makes me realize that it is not finished, so that is definitely one thing I need to do this summer that will hopefully earn me some money when it is complete.<br /><br />4 - Finish my booklet on how to start and run a homeschool co-op. I already have 13 pages of notes on how we did this. I plan to self-publish this booklet and sell it on my website.<br /><br />5 - Work on my book. It is based on a talk I have given many times on how to manage television viewing in families. It will probably be called "Taming the TV Habit". I need a publisher! Know anyone?<br /><br />6 - Sell stuff on eBay or other places online! I plan to garage sale at least one day every week with an eye to buying things to sell online.<br /><br />7 - Work at a homeschool conference selling Usborne books for my sister. I used to be an Usborne consultant a few years back. After Bob's accident and Suzy's birth, I gave up on it. But I will be working one conference with my sister who currently is an Usborne consultant. Hopefully I can earn $100 there.<br /><br />8 - Web design. I can design simple websites. I am learning Front Page. So if anyone needs a simple website on a budget, let me know. (I have designed <a href="http://www.sof.homeschoolchoices.com">www.sof.homeschoolchoices.com</a> and <a href="http://www.homeschoolchoices.com">www.homeschoolchoices.com</a>.)<br /><br />9 - Ooooh, my options are getting limited now. I suppose I could have a garage sale. Ew. Hate the very thought. <br /><br />10 - I could even babysit. Oh, forget I even said that. I DETEST babysitting. <br /><br />Notice none of these mentioned going out and getting a REAL job. LOL I have looked for summer school jobs and found nothing. I do not want to work for $7/hr doing retail. That's silly. Also, I need a fairly flexible schedule in case Bob ends up going back to work this summer. <br /><br />OK, so those are my ideas. I sure won't get bored, will I? lolUnknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11637619.post-1116213000829870792005-05-15T23:10:00.000-04:002005-05-15T23:10:00.846-04:00Ten Things I Bought at Homeschool ConferenceSpent Friday and Saturday at a homeschool conference and purchased the following 10 items:<br /><br /><img src="http://www.timberdoodle.com/Productimages/main/695695.jpg" /><br /><a href="http://www.timberdoodle.com/browseproducts/Manners-Made-Easy.html">http://www.timberdoodle.com/browseproducts/Manners-Made-Easy.html</a><br /><br /><img src="http://www.visionforum.com/resources/images/product/23513_m.jpg" /><br /><a href="http://www.visionforum.com/booksandmedia/productdetail.aspx?productid=23513&categoryid=126">http://www.visionforum.com/booksandmedia/productdetail.aspx?productid=23513&categoryid=126</a><br /><br /><img src="https://www.booksofthebible.com/stock/p3301d.jpg" /><br /><a href="https://www.booksofthebible.com/p3301.html">https://www.booksofthebible.com/p3301.html</a><br /><br /><img src="http://www.treehousetoyshop.com/catalog/images/detail/LR-2563_d.jpg" /><br /><a href="http://www.treehousetoyshop.com/catalog/product_detail.php/pid=1051~subid=103//index.html?PHPSESSID=0e2825a404fe2e0ae7c84711b339297a">http://www.treehousetoyshop.com/catalog/product_detail.php/pid=1051~subid=103//index.html?PHPSESSID=0e2825a404fe2e0ae7c84711b339297a</a><br /><br /><img src="http://www.timberdoodle.com/Productimages/electric/125135.jpg" /><br /><a href="http://www.timberdoodle.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=156">http://www.timberdoodle.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=156</a><br /><br /><img src="http://store1.yimg.com/I/yhst-52268167901972_1830_606061" /><br /><a href="http://www.headsupnow.com/math.htm">http://www.headsupnow.com/math.htm</a><br /><a href="http://www.candokids.com/products.html">http://www.candokids.com/products.html</a><br /><br /><img src="http://store1.yimg.com/I/yhst-52268167901972_1830_436866" /><br /><a href="http://www.headsupnow.com/reading.htm">http://www.headsupnow.com/reading.htm</a><br /><br /><img src="http://www.gallopade.com/client/products/prodimagelg/95674.jpg" /><br /><a href="http://www.gallopade.com/productdetails.cfm?PC=2154">http://www.gallopade.com/productdetails.cfm?PC=2154</a><br /><a href="http://www.gallopade.com/">http://www.gallopade.com/</a><br />Looks like they have lots of different states, not just Michigan!<br /><br /><img src="http://catalog.educationworkshawaii.com/images/edu/big/H/EP062.gif" /><br /><a href="http://catalog.educationworkshawaii.com/product_info.php?products_id=16410&osCsid=efa487d87b0475b361cc2545635fc1c4">http://catalog.educationworkshawaii.com/product_info.php?products_id=16410&osCsid=efa487d87b0475b361cc2545635fc1c4</a><br /><br /><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/1560106999.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg" /><br /><a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1560106999/qid=1116212846/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/104-8804812-5776730?v=glance&s=books&n=507846">http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1560106999/qid=1116212846/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/104-8804812-5776730?v=glance&s=books&n=507846</a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11637619.post-1112125207187104152005-05-09T18:23:00.000-04:002005-05-09T15:39:50.593-04:00Ten Toys Our Family LovesIn honor of organizing our toy room, I present a list of 10 toys our family loves.<br /><br />1 - LeapPad<br />2 - Legos, legos, and more legos!<br />3 - Dress up clothes<br />4 - Barbies (which I resisted for years)<br />5 - Beanie babies (Emily's favorite)<br />6 - Fisher-Price pirate island<br />7 - Fisher-Price animals and little people<br />8 - plastic indians, soldiers, cowboys, etc...<br />9 - Lord of the Rings action figures<br />10 - Polly PocketsUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11637619.post-1113677017084757402005-05-04T12:19:00.000-04:002005-05-04T22:53:24.030-04:00Ten Cool Places in MichiganTen Cool Places in Michigan that I have visited....<br /><br />Yes, I have been a Michigander all my life. There are some cool things to see here! Come and visit!<br /><IMG SRC="http://pic12.picturetrail.com/VOL423/523431/5424773/95477199.jpg"><br /><br /><strong>1 - Sanilac Petroglyphs</strong><br /><a href="http://www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails/ParksandTrailsInfo.aspx?id=490">http://www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails/ParksandTrailsInfo.aspx?id=490</a><br /><a href="http://www.rae.org/sanilac.html">http://www.rae.org/sanilac.html</a><br /><img src="http://www.rae.org/sanilac/archer.jpg" /><br /><br />These petroglyphs are within an hour drive of my home. I have been there twice. It is quite a walk from the parking lot to the location of the best petroglyphs. LOTS OF BUGS! LOL The more accessible petroglyphs have fallen victim to vandals, so they aren't as impressive. Also they are more weathered. These petroglyphs lay covered with dense brush until the great forest fires of the Thumb in the late 1800's. At that time, they were discovered.<br /><br /><strong>2 - Sleeping Bear Dunes</strong><br /><a href="http://www.nps.gov/slbe/">http://www.nps.gov/slbe/</a><br /><a href="http://www.leelanau.com/dunes/">http://www.leelanau.com/dunes/</a><br /><img src="http://www.aerialgraphics.com/photos/p929.jpg" /><br /><br />The Sleeping Bear Dunes are on the West Michigan coastline, along Lake Michigan. It has been years since I was there. Dunes are a lot of fun. If you have never been to sand dunes, they are great for rolling down, but not so great for climbing up. LOL Some dunes have dune buggy rental services. I remember being in a dune buggy when I was a kid. Wheeee!<br /><br /><strong>3 - Big Spring (Kitch-iti-kipi) at Palms Book State Park</strong><br /><a href="http://www.visitmanistique.com/bigsprings/park.html">http://www.visitmanistique.com/bigsprings/park.html</a><br /><br /><img src="http://travel.michigan.org/cm/attach/9F3A5EC3-C9A7-46B6-A40C-DBD9EC3C49A6/2513%20Kitch-iti-Kipi_thumb.jpg" /><br /><br />This is another destination I remember from my childhood. The deep deep spring is so clear that you can see all the way to the bottom, as if it were mere inches. There are large slowmoving fish you can see. A raft is available for you to pull yourself out into the middle of the "lake" and experience this fully. My parents have a photo of my sister and me in front of a display board at this state park and when Bob and I went to the park in the early 90's, that same board was still there!<br /><br /><strong>4 - The "Soo" Locks in Sault Ste. Marie</strong><br /><a href="http://www.saultstemarie.com/">http://www.saultstemarie.com/</a><br /><a href="https://webcam.crrel.usace.army.mil/soo/">https://webcam.crrel.usace.army.mil/soo/</a> <---Live WebCam of the Soo Locks <img src="http://www.soolockstraintours.com/Assets/LocksArialView.jpg" /><br /><br />The Soo Locks are pretty cool. Lake Superior and Lake Huron are at different heights above sea level. So the locks were built so huge freighters can go from one lake to the other. There is a lot to do at the "Soo" besides see the locks.<br /><br /><strong>5 - Fort Michilimackinac</strong><br /><a href="http://www.mackinacparks.com/parks/colonial-michilimackinac_7/">http://www.mackinacparks.com/parks/colonial-michilimackinac_7/</a><br /><a href="http://www.southalabama.edu/archaeology/fc-fort_michilimackinac.htm">http://www.southalabama.edu/archaeology/fc-fort_michilimackinac.htm</a><br /><br /><img src="http://www.waterwinterwonderland.com/images/tourist/Massacre_Fort_Michilimackinac_Mackinaw_City.jpg" /><br /><br />This is one of my favorite destinations. My friend Sarah works here during the summers as a re-enactor. Very cool! Fort Michilimackinac is another place I remember my parents taking us. Bob and I took the kids here in 2003. There are lots of soldiers and Native Americans to re-enact the types of activities that took place in the Fort when it was in service, back in the 1700's.<br /><br /><strong>6 - Mackinac Island</strong><br /><a href="http://www.mackinacisland.org/">http://www.mackinacisland.org/</a><br /><a href="http://www.theislandhouse.com/cam.htm">http://www.theislandhouse.com/cam.htm</a> <---Live Cam of Mackinac Harbor <img src="http://www.rvtravelog.com/mackisland.dir/map.jpg" /><br /><img src="http://www.aerialgraphics.com/photos/macinacisland.gif" /><br /><br />Another very fun place to visit. And it's more than just fudge and the Grand Hotel! (Btw, the Grand Hotel is where Somewhere in Time was filmed, but it is a very very expensive place to stay.) On our 2003 trip, we took a ferry to the island, pretty much the only way to get there. We had a horse-drawn tour of the island; no cars are allowed there! We visited Fort Mackinac and lots of historic buildings. I'd love to live here. In summer, anyway.<br /><br /><strong>7 - Calder Sculpture, Grand Rapids<br /></strong><a href="http://travel.michigan.org/detail.asp?p=B5915&m=3;1">http://travel.michigan.org/detail.asp?p=B5915&m=3;1</a><br /><a href="http://www.grpl.org/collections/grhsty_spcoll/exhibits/Calder/calder2.html">http://www.grpl.org/collections/grhsty_spcoll/exhibits/Calder/calder2.html</a><br /><br /><img src="http://mapage.noos.fr/jrichez/photo/Michigan/GrandRapids/Calder.jpg" /><br /><br />The Calder is ingrained into my memory. When one thinks of Grand Rapids, the Calder comes to mind. It is part of the city's symbol - that bright orange, oddly shaped metal sculpture located in downtown Grand Rapids. We used to beg to go downtown and see the Calder!<br /><br /><strong>8 - Tunnel Park, Holland MI</strong><br /><a href="http://www.holland.org/index.pl?paID=235">http://www.holland.org/index.pl?paID=235</a><br /><a href="http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node=Holland%2C%20Michigan">http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node=Holland%2C%20Michigan</a><br /><img src="http://www.holland.org/images/TunnelPark2.jpg" /><br /><br />A fond childhood memory is church trips to Tunnel Park in Holland, MI. What I DIDN'T know is that Tunnel Park used to be a zoo and the tunnel was used to allow the large animals access to the water! Remarkable! Now, it's just a lovely beach on Lake Michigan and a fun way to get to the water.<br /><br /><strong>9 - South Haven Lighthouse<br /></strong><a href="http://travel.michigan.org/detail.asp?m=2;7&p=B6624">http://travel.michigan.org/detail.asp?m=2;7&p=B6624</a><br /><img src="http://www.imageblur.com/images/uploads/0110.jpg" /><br /><br />I was born in South Haven and my grandparents lived there, so we visited that town often. Other than the fire hydrants that used to be painted like animals and people, the lighthouse is one of the things that stands out about South Haven in my mind. It was great fun to go down and walk the pier.<br /><br /><strong>10 - Shrine of the Pines<br /></strong><a href="http://travel.michigan.org/detail.asp?m=2;7&p=G4855">http://travel.michigan.org/detail.asp?m=2;7&p=G4855</a><br /><a href="http://www.shrineofthepines.com/">http://www.shrineofthepines.com/</a><br /><br /><img src="http://ravenfarm.com/photos/shrine-in-pines/P1010003.JPG" /><br /><br />One more place that I went as a child was Shrine of the Pines. The beautiful pine furniture has remained in my memory for years and years, especially the table with the little drawers for hiding your broccoli! LOL<br /><br />I hope you've enjoyed this tour of Michigan as much as I have. Come on up and we'll visit some of these places in person!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11637619.post-1114657831661230732005-04-27T22:41:00.000-04:002005-04-27T23:10:31.663-04:00Top Ten Disney Animated MoviesSuzy is watching a Disney Sing Along and laughing aloud, so I thought I'd try my hand at a top ten list of my favorite animated Disney movies.
